Not sure about the rear end... But, is that hp# at the crank or the wheels?

at the crank. It's a 350 with a steel crank and pistons, bored .30 over with a weiand 142. hyd. roller flat tappet cam .495/510, 292/301. I came to the conclusion i would need 4:11 gears on my own, but i'm pretty ignorant for the most part beings i'm not an experienced mechanic. any suggestions are very much appreciated. thank you.

It depends what type of transmission you have, I'm guessing a TH-400?

  Ok you have a 5 speed, go with a 3.73 rear end if it will fit.

really. that's great news. thank you so very much, i'll look into it!

If you get a 4.11 rear end on the highway you might be siphoning gas from someone in a few years. Youre welcome

right on. can i just swap the gut's in my 10 bolt? is that kind of ratio available in those easy change limited slip or magnetic lock out diffs advertised?

That's what I don't know. Some other guys will help you on here though.
