So, I unintentionally purchased a 1904 edlebrock carburetor (chevy carb) which is paired up with a 7111 edlebrock aluminum intake and a 1971 350 Rocket. What am I losing if I decide to keep the chevy carb??

Not knowing what carb you intended to buy I would say with that 795 cfm quadrajet power wise you will lose nothing but fuel inlet and vacuum ports might be located differently from a stock Olds carb since I believe Olds fuel inlet comes in from the front.

I don't think you would be losing anything. I happily ditched my holley to get back to the 1906 Qjet I have now. The Stock air cleaner fits again, I have vacuum secondaries , just as was intended.

Everything I have read thus far says that the 1904 Q-Jet is particularly for Chevy trucks. As I have done more research and asked more questions, it turns out that I probably should have went with the 1406 edlebrock carb because it is a good match for my 7111 aluminum intake. From what I read, people say it's good to match up your carb and intake.

Ah, thanks for the feedback....but from an Olds guy that wants to do what's best for an Olds Rocket, do you think the Q jet will be conducive with my set-up (rocket 350, edlebrock intake)??

yes !! I may be a little biased but that's the beauty of them. I have run the exact same qjet carb on a 455 olds, 454 chev and on a 350 chev with only idle and mixture adjustments. The olds motors came with a qjet from the factory. IIRC the performer intake should be drilled for both carb patterns if you change your mind. I will admit they are a little harder to set up at first but I love the reliability.

I have always liked the spreadbore style of a quadrajet on mild performance engines over the squarebore design of an Edelbrock Performer.
You always know when the four barrels are open.

well if you are an olds guy looking do do what's best for a 350 rocket then why not a real quadrajet, a 7040250 quadrajet

That's a good point.....there were some Olds engines that came from the factory with the Q-jet. I guess my primary concern was that I didn't want to lose anything by going with the q-jet and I also didn't want to force a match-up ( carb and intake) that wasn't meant to be.
