I have an 84 Hurst, and I took out the 307 and found me a 1974 350 rocket to put in its place. I had the motor bored 30 over and completely rebuilt with a comp cam and edelbrock performer intake and had my heads redone. But now I don't know what color to paint my motor. What color did a rocket come from the factory in '74? I was thinking gold, but I can't even find any gold engine paint. So I was leaning towards red and I figured I should get some of your opinions first...

Would gold look good with my car though? A gold motor with a silver/black/red car?

I think it will look good, the main part of your car is black and the silver and red are just basically accents. Also it is in a black engine bay, so it will also look good in there.

But overall, its up to you. It shouldn't matter what other people think as long as you like it.

GOLD!

It's not expensive, you can get it in 5$ cans at NAPA.

Well, there are two different shades of Oldsmobile gold, the gold used in the late '60s and early '70s, and a more bronze looking color in the mid '60s. By 1970, they switched to blue as well for certain motors.

I myself went with 'Universal Gold' available at any parts house.

No. There was gold, as used on all 330 and 350 motors, and bronze, as used on the 400 motors. There was also red used on the 425s and 68-69 455s and metallic blue, used on the 70-75 455s.

I knew you'd be right behind me to clarify!

P.S. You're gonna have to post a pic of your '69 H/O for me Joe... my absolute favorite car of all time.
