It is a pretty common conversion. I would not reuse the heads it comes with though as they pretty much suck unless they are Vortec heads. I am thinking of building a new engine for my car and will probably try to source one of these TBI 350 blocks to do it with. They come with roller cams and one piece rear main seals, which are not as prone to leaks as the 2 piece seals are. The roller cam is an advantage because it lets you reuse the lifters and hardware with a better cam. The roller cam allows for a much more aggressive lift curve and therefore more air flow for a given duration and better power without sacrificing idle quality.
Oh, and BTW, I used the 3.8 V6 throttle cable on my 350. I just scavenged a throttle cable bracket from a 305 powered 80's carburated something in the junkyard. Doesn't matter what, just so long as it has a Quadrajet and a Chevy engine and was made in the 80's. Extra bonus points if you score a non computer Quadrajet too. The Quadrajet is a good carburetor when it is set up right, and it has the physical benefits of proper TV cable geometry built in, and it is shorter than most aftermarket carbs for better hood clearance.
If you are planning on this swap in the future, gather parts starting now. Be sure to scavenge all the little clips, nuts, bolts, fasteners, etc that you can and keep them organized. Take old parts that others are giving away or throwing out that may help you. That stock air cleaner may not be sexy, but it works in a pinch, as do things like intake manifolds and exhaust manifolds. Read my parts list (sticky at top of the page) to get an idea as to all of what is needed. I got my Holley fuel pump for free as well as my cold air setup, some brackets, stock valve covers, etc from a friend of mine whose Camaro I updated. I found my Edelbrock Performer intake for $15 at the U pull it. I have since found many more of them in old pickups and vans as well as cars, as recently as a few months back.
