What is the lower body trim made of? Any pointers on restoring it? And for the monte guys what have you done about the plastic chrome bumper pieces?

Go to eBay and search Monte Carlo bumper trim, you will see a pic of my car and look at that auction. I bought the set from a great guy named larry. As far as the lower trim on the sides of the car, I'm also looking for the best way to make them look new. It would be great is they were made aftermarket.

Yes I wish they made them new to. I have went to a few polishing shops and they say its anodized aluminum. One fella suggested soda blasting them. Fixing the dents and re-polishing. Then you could get the re- anodized but it would probably cost more then the car did lol. Ive also seen videos on youtube of stripping anodize off with warm water and lye which is drain cleaner and then re-polish but they need seem to re seal the metal. And I have seen the pieces on ebay which look nice but pricy. Ive also thought about having the originalplastic pieces re chromed like a plastic grill would be.

The lower rocker moldings are stainless steel with an anodized coating on them.
The rest of your body and window trim is mostly anodized aluminum.
I wouldn't recommend blasting either.

I restored all of the stainless and aluminum moldings at the resto-shop I worked at and with how much time and work it takes to redo them, you're much better off spending your time finding nicer pieces if you can get them.

Yea if you can find nicer pieces. That could take more time then any thing in ohio. Plus people want an arm and a leg for em. My pices personally are in decent shape but after new paint and interior I just want the rest of the car to look as good as possible. I have run a buff over em and it took alot of oxidation out of the coating made em look pretty good imo. And for the record I was very skeptical about stripping or blasting them.
