i bought a 82 olds cutlass a few months back that someone had done a 3.8 to olds 350 swap this car never had the option on a olds 350 so i was wondering if anyone knew where i could get the numbers off of the heads and block to have some idea of what i have thanks in advance, Jesse

ok so from that the block id is 395558 with a big 2 and the head on the drivers side had a 8 the one on the passenger had 142 as for the drive line code i couldnt see it as it was dark out and my alt is in the way thanks for your insight ahead of time

i ment to say vin derivitive<-cant spell not drive train

You have a pretty good block to start off with, but the heads are not the best. I believe they are the start of the smog engines with low compression and crappy flow. They are not the worst heads, but it would be best to start off with some #5,6, or 7 heads.

Edit: I believe it is a 76 engine.

Actually, it could be 1973-1976. The second character of the VIN Derivative will tell for sure.

according to that block id link it should be from 68-70 shouldnt it? the number 5 heads are the best right? what did those come on ?

Don't believe everything you read at 442.com. That casting number was used from 1968 to 1976.
