Hi, I'm a new user here and am considering buying an 85 Monte to replace the 88 Ls I sold last year. My car was a bench seat car and the new one is bucket, but it seems to be missing a part of the console. I just need to know what the part circled in the picture is since that seems to be whats missing. Thanks.

It's called the bread box. Not sure why, ya ain't gonna fit any bread in there! The monte console i pulled from a yard car several years ago has it.

I've seen monte consoles without that option though. I'm sure others will chime in.

Thats where the ashtry was on '78-'85 cars. '86-'88 used the same ashtry for console & non console cars, adding a coin try at the end in place of the ashtry extention

Here is what one looks like open...

Not alot of room but it does complete the look of the consoles... as pagrunt mentioned, used from 78-85

after 85 they looked like this and were refrered to as a coin tray

both of these are mine and side by side I prefer the early look with breadbox.

I agree the earlier model looks better, and more "finished". I got my console for a whopping $13 with the brackets i cut out of the donor!!!! Score since people sell em for decent prices!

I also agree, the breadbox basically brings the console to meet the dash to give a more continuous look which I feel all center consoles should do.

hmmm interesting pic....I have one just like that..

looking at the two they're almost identical...

Wow lol! Yeah the monte i pulled mine from musta not been sitting long, because the interior was still complete. The buckets were absolutely toast...so i yanked the tracks from them, console and brackets. I've yet to see another monte bucket car in the local yards, and that was at least 3 years ago when i stumbled upon it. Best part is i was actually there helping my brother n law look for stuff for his daily....saw the roofline of a G and figured I'd check it out!

85 Monte SS had the 1 year only gray/black brushed trim set...somewhat hard to find. I had a complete set here I had hoped to use in a project but never did..it took me a long time to piece this set together.

If you get the car there's a member here that specializes in used Monte SS parts and he might be able to hook you up.
