What is this piece?

Found this in the trunk of my cutlass, can anyone take a guess to what this is for? Some kind of gasket.

Its the door mirror gasket.

Is it supposed to be soft and rubber like? This one is hard like plastic, seems brittle.

No not soft, they are a hard plastic.

As stated above it is a door mirror gasket for RPO G47 sport mirrors. The large hole in the middle is for the RPO D35 (R) or D68 (L) remote cables.

The gasket you have is for either side for 81-88 Olds/Buick G-body 2 door.

For clarification, the D35 was for dual sport mirrors painted upper body color on the G-body with LH manual remote and RH manual (no cable). D68 was the same thing, but added a remote control cable to the RH outside mirror. The gasket you have works on either side . The GMSPO parts catalog lists the 20215096 as 2 per car regardless of D35 or D68. Discontinued from GM.
