Epay shows 8.5's for between $50 and $500. Even a free unit still needs to be properly installed and that will cost some $$$. You still haven't stated your intentions. A stockish 455 driven by a responsible adult won't kill it, but childish antics or drag racing will surely doom it. I'd say if you can respect it for what it is, go ahead and run it.
$$$ is not an issue, since i don't have any lol. My intentions are to drive the car to events around/near town and occasionally breaking loose the rearend or a light to light quickie. But I'll more then likely do my best to baby it in the meanwhile saving for something better. Thanks Bonnewagon I'll check them out when i get home.
I have one of those ticking time bombs in my 88 Monte SS. Car is mostly stock but I still do not trust it.

You guys in Upstate NY that are near Seneca Falls should seek out Gevo's gears http://www.rearsgears.com/. John Giovannini is a great guy, and he sells all kinds of hard to find stuff. I used to find him at Englishtown Swap Meet and get gear sets and posi's at real good prices. I was in Rochester NY for the Empire State Games with my kids and I slipped on over to see him and picked up a '68 Buick LeSabre posi he had found for me.
