What manual trans??

So im putting a manual in my olds using gbodyparts manual conversion kit, what trans would you guys suggest to go behind a 455? Dont know much about them so would like to know everything from the bellhousing to the trans itself

Would like a 5 or 6 but i dont know about the bellhousing options and the budget is kind of open at this point, low cost is a plus of course

You'll probably need a TKO. I don't think a factory version of any T5 will live long behind a 455. If you want a T56 you'll need to come up with a "conversion" bellhousing for the mechanical clutch linkage. All the factory bellhousings are set up for hydraulic slave.
Another couple options would be an MY6 (New Process A833). It's an overdrive 4-speed and very strong. With the right bellhousing, you could also use a Ford overdrive Toploader too. These are probably quite a bit cheaper options than the 5 or 6 speeds but have their own drawbacks. I run the MY6 in my El Camino behind a 400 and like it a lot.

i'd like more information about the MY6, what trucks did they come in? i'm googling but having trouble finding definitive answers.

it sounds like a manual ver. of the 700r4? and is plenty strong to handle the 350hp/400tq i'm getting out of the motor.

i'd like to mate a 4-6spd behind my 400 this summer

can you buy them rebuilt or used/new anywhere? i'm going to head the yards around here but i haven't found anywhere to buy them

Even with that id have to get a bop bellhousing that would bolt to it

Looking at the pictures in that link the bolt pattern is different compared to the muncie/borg warner. Anything with enough modification will work. I would look into a Lakewood or Quicktime bellhousing to see if they have one. But for BOP can be tricky.
