i just got off the phone with bilstein and they say not to use their hd or ak on a 3 in drop. im sure someone is or has found a shock that works well. and was just wondering how it was working or other shocks that work well with that amount of drop? with the stock ones they seem to only last a few hundred miles or a little more before they loose their rebound and compression qualities. id still like to have some travel in the shock so i can move toward my goal of going through the corners. any advice/input is much appreciated thanks

Did you drop the car yet? Are you talking about the front, rear, or both?
Sounds like we have the same goals. I haven't looked at the rear much yet but for the front I was going to use drop spindles so I won't need lowering springs so different from stock.

i have already lowered it and my stock shocks are just not doing much now i rub inner fender on any kind of harsh bumps in the front. the rear isnt bad but still need to put new shocks on the rear also. i used 2 inch drop spindle and 1 inch lowering spring in front and 2 inch spring in back. and both springs have a higher rate than stock.

Did you tell Bilstein how you had it set-up? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think all you need up front is a shock for a 1 inch drop since that's all your springs are doing.

P.S.: Rubbing tires or not, I like that stance. 8)

these are Bilsteins street stock racing shocks, I like them cause they are linear and thru connections I get them for $54 each.

BIL-AK1043 FRONT, 8.45" COLLAPSED 13.36" EXT. $64.95
BIL-AK1044 REAR, 13.03" COLLAPSED 20.47" EXT. $64.95
BIL-AK1051 FRONT, 7.95" COLLAPSED 11.93" EXT. $64.95
BIL-AK1052 REAR, 11.28" COLLAPSED 17.20" EXT. $79.95

307 regal you got me thinking and i do believe you are correct everything i found says spindles dont effect shock height. thanks for bringing my attention to that.

pontiacgp are the ak's pretty stiff? was wondering if they or the hd's would be better for cornering my only concern with the hd's is i have heard the compression is almost twice that of the rebound...not to concerned about ride its already fairly stiff even with stock shocks. i have also heard a lot of people say good things about the koni reds and yellows although i cant find any yellows for gbodys ,any opinions on those or any other quality shocks that work well in the corners?

these are the best shocks I have used and they are racing shocks so they are firm. The HD shock is a self adjusting shock which why I would never use them and you can't compare them to the AK shock. I like a linear shock so I know what to expect.

Noob question, but what is the term "linear" referring to?
Also, if I were to buy some of the shocks you linked to, what measurements do I need to know?

linear means its the same compression and rebound throughout the cycle. To measure for the shocks just measure the lower A arm to the hole for the top shock mount. Your shock shouldn't be holding up the a arm but it should only be a bit longer or the shock will bottom out. The back is easier to measure. I need the shorter ones so my spring don't move when I lift the car

Every time I see you type that in a thread I cringe a little. As long as it doesn't happen while you're driving. That would freak me out.
So lets say you had a 60/40 shock (as an example). If it's linear then does that mean regardless of how hard you push it the ratio will always be 60/40? And the HD constantly changes ratios depending on how you drive?
