I've got to replace the fuel pump on my '83 Cutlass with 5.0 and I'm trying to get the metal fuel line to the carb off of it. The problem is, I can't seem to find the right size wrench. What size SHOULD that thing be?

have you tried SAE and metric? plus sometimes (pretty damn often actually) old age and rust change the size or allow too much slippage. if all else fails use a pair of vise grips.

I've thrown the whole toolbox at it and nothing seems to fit "right". What complicates this is the lower mount for the A/C unit is in the way with a small cut-out designed (presumably) for access to this thing. So I've thought of the vise grip solution, but I can't get 'em in there!

Anyone have a more 'elegant' solution?

I believe it's a 5/8 or a 17mm. I would use a line wrench on it so that you don't round it off. Also, you will need a 1 inch wrench to hold the fuel filter housing if you are working on the carb.
