I have removed the a/c and now have the ugly dang housing left. What should i do? I want it to look clean and to get rid of the wasted space to give me more room. Do I have to get rid of the whole heater box? with the fan and everything. its not a daily driver just a summer toy that I am going to put a blown 434 in it. any advice would be great
😀

It is possible to remove the entire unit that holds the heater core and just put a plate over it. It will probably be easiest if you remove the inner fenderwell to access it though.

yeah thats what I was thinkin but didnt know if it would be a stupid idea to get rid of my fan and heater? I dont think i will need it seeing how it will only be out during the summer? just thought I would check with someone else before I go for it. lol. thanks for the help. 😀

Well, do you plan on using it for heat or a/c ever? If not, then it can be axed... this past summer I drove the '81 around with no heater box, but the blower was intermittent at working to start with, and the vacuum lines weren't connected to the heater controls, so it was coming through the heater 100% of the time. I made mine from some extra Home Depot galvanized sheetmetal I had laying around in under an hour.

Keep that stuff on a shelf! Someday you may regret removal and need it. It's also a good thing to at least have any of the parts removed(not just in regards to the heater), when it comes time to sell the vehicle, because this will probably be a concern of the majority of interested buyers(and even if it's not a concern of theirs, they may use it to their advantage anyway to try to undermine the cars value). You'll never regret holding onto the stuff, but you may regret getting rid of it.

Just wait until you get caught in the rain! 🙁 You will eventually find yourself in need of defrost, on cool spring morning...you'll be on your way to work with you widow's down freezing your nuts off just to see were you're going.

Be ready to ride in her car on cool fall nights now, girls learn fast that cold cars don't make them hot, and they usually think a working heater is more impressive than any Dyno results.

I have been down this road before, the weight saved is not worth it and If you want to clean it up under the hood and do it right, get yourself an A/C Delete heater swap.

You could always have the best of both worlds:

Although it is more expensive to go this route.

Is that a Vintage Air setup? I'm thinking of eventually going with one on mine to clean up the engine bay.
