I am a point where I need some advice from all you guys. I have been gathering interior pieces for some time to change my 87 bench seat over to a floor shift with the SS black and red dash. I keep hearing so much about keeping things stock. If you were in my shoes how would you proceed? Stock or convert to buckets with the SS interior?
Thanks in advance

In my eyes it's not an SS unless it has buckets and a floor shift!!! A console doesn't hurt either!!

Bench seat has got to go!!!!

I don't think stock it will ever be a classic. Samall engine, small rear end etc. But I know that with every upgrade I have made to my ride I seem to get offered more for it. In fact I have a bumper sticker on the back of mine saying "Built the way Chevy should have."
Which is why the 5th generationa Elky is good, everyone can build them the way they want them.

I like buckets but dont see the big deal in them. I took my buckets out for the bench. They are soo comfy. If I want to have room for my gonads to breath I can. Bench seat with big power motor equals sleeper. Its all in preference. Would I ever switch the bench to bucket? Yes.

Well, by stock, most of us mean using stock type parts or not making it too custom. What you are doing is not really much of a deviation from stock in appearance. What most of us mean is "Don't butcher the car". For example, I plan to upgrade my interior with 80's aftermarket buckets or buckets from another car and may do a custom but stock appearing console when I do. However, I won't be cutting huge holes in anything but the floor ( for my 5 speed! :D ), so it could be returned to stock if needed. Most of these cars need to be modified and not left stock. The whole resto-mod thing is about improving the car but keeping the original character. So long as it is not tacky or hacked looking, you are OK. Just don't do things that are trendy and will go out of style quickly.

Don't worry bout keeping it completely stock. Hell, even some cars aren't 100% stock new from the dealer.

There is a lot that can be done with these cars to modify them, but yet have them look comletely stock. From body braces, to F41 suspension parts, to rally guages and bench to buckets/console. I have parts myself that were not stock on the car, but looking you wouldn't know it. Build it the way you want, I chose to keep the classic look of the car, but yet improve on the options.
