im looking to buy a monte carlo from the 80's and probably replace my 85 trans am due to the lack of parts for it around here. i have a 300hp 327 engine i was going to put in it as well as a th350 transmission. the transmission has the 9 inch shaft to fit in where a 700r4 would and i was wondering if that would fit in a typical g body without any mods. if not what length output shaft would i need. thanks.

Check out this chart with popular transmission dimensions:

Be aware that no G-body was ever built at the factory with a 700R4 or with a 9" tailshaft TH350 (which appear to be very close in length). You catch a break with the crossmember using the TH350 but you'll have to modify the driveshaft. The 6" tail TH350 and the 200-4R are about the same length but use completely different crossmembers.
