What type of axles 87 SS?

1987 Monte Carlo SS, what type of axles 26 or 28 spline.....any help greatly appreciated

Common guys someone has to know what came in these cars originally, have a deal on a new eaton center section for a 10 bolt 7.5 but I dont know which axle my car had originally 26 or 28 spline.......any info appreciated

should be 28's in a SS. depending on what gears you have.

Nope, 26.

All 7.5" rears recieved 26 spline axles.
All 8.5" rears recieved 28 spline axles.

Didn't 28 spline come in the 7.5/7.625 Chevy S-10. If you haven't bought / dont have a posi yet you might upgrade to the 28s. 26s were very weak.

It has 26 spline axles period, 28 spline axle were changed in vehicles later like starting in the 90's the rear wheel drive monte was long gone before that happened

still not sure take your axles out and count the splines, then you can repeat "I told you so" in your head for me :lol:

actually the 7 5/8 rear in the monte SS does have a 28 spline, the 7 1/2 has 26.

Funny mine had 26, someone must had done a downgrade
