I know exhaust matters a lot and this may be a dumb question but whats considering exact same exhaust what is louder and sound better a 403 or 350? im mainly considered more about sound so i was just wondering what would give me the that mean deep sound.
the head set and cam is going to make all the difference in the world ( exhaust and intake timing, duration etc )
if you are talking about stock motors- you need to see what kind of 350 motor and 403 motor and see teh castings- what they were in. the chevy 350 was used in 230 hp apps for pickup trucks and some were 350 in camaros etc. ya know?
From what I have heard, all Olds engines have a deep exhaust note by nature. I think there is too many variables to be able to say what would be louder.
Here is a sweet sounding 403, is this the sound you are looking for??
What engine do you have right now? Personally, I don't think there's enough of a difference between V8s to care. Anything 305 or larger sounds pretty good with the right exhaust. IMHO, straight pipes and glass packs make the car sound like it needs a tune-up. I always run Flowmasters because there's enough backpressure not to rob power and they sound great! I put a Flowmaster 80 series muffler on my Cutlass 307 and it's just loud enough to have a nice burble but not so loud that people think I'm a jacka$$ with an over-the-top unreliable muscle car. Just my opinion.
All Olds v8's sound nice and throaty. I have run 307's, 350's and 403's, all sound very similar. You definitely need headers and dual exhaust. Even the mild 204/214 .448/.472 cam adds to the sound. My 403 with 1 5/8" Sandersons, 204/214 cam and 2.5" dual Aerochamber exhaust with X pipe sounds mean without being too loud.
