So I'm about to buy a 1984 regal I only work part time but would like to make a decent sleeper out of it. Keep in mind I'm a learner about these cars so in this scenario you know more than me and I would like to hear what you have to say. A few specific things I already have in mind are a shift kit and under the hood blower. As of now I can easily obtain an m90 series supercharger so if you know if that'd benefit me let me know. Also I can get my hands on a rachet shifter for a decent price but I'm not sure what transmission was in this model regal. Let me know what you think.

First off if the regal is stock engine wise it will usually have either the 305 or 307. If it is a t-type Regal then it will have the v6 3.8 L. Now those two motors will not win you any races unless against some import. The 3.8 L is better. You should be looking in other directions for engine building if your Regal is not T-type.

Now after that you will need a transmission that can handle power. You will either have to build the 2004r that is stock in the car or buy a built transmission of choice. Now a 2004r and th350 will fit fine under, but other trannies like the th400 or 7004r will need some modifications to fit properly.

Now you will have to beef up your rearend in order to handle the power the engine and transmission will be putting out plus not break it. Now if you are getting or have a t-type you have the rare and popular 8.5 rear. You have a regular Regal then you have the weak 7.5 rear. Now you will want to look for a 8.5 rear that came in a Grand National, hurst old, 442 Gbody. They fit perfectly in other gbodies without modifications. Now the ford 9inch is a little more expensive, but depending if you buy or build one will determine how much more. Now you can always get a 10 or 12 bolt rear, but now your talking fabrication work and other parts needed to get it to fit right.

From here now you can start working on your car upgrades like blower, nos ect..

i memory serves me right it will have blacked out and badging some had the turbo hood and i thought that they had the turbo 3.8 but i could be wrong

I just did some reading and its not a t type. And an engine swaps alot of work from a 3.8 to a 305 but as said earlier a bigger transmissions going to be needed anyway and I could get it pretty easily. Granted its going to be what you can call a Craigslist car but far from sloppy I just wanna build a little bit of fun out of it keep it alive and when I'm done pass it to another who will appreciate it or set it aside for a full on gnx cloning.

Very interested in the 305 idea however how hard will it be to jump up from the 3.8 to a 305? Because I could get my hands on a brand new one for 300 and a th350 that needs a rebuild for like 50.
Feel completely free to tell me what's up at any point I'm here to learn!

honestly i wouldn't go with a 305 think bigger 350 olds or chevy is a way better platform to start from sounds like you want to go chevy theres a few to go from 327 350 383 400 just to name a few all these motors will drop right in place of a 305 if thats what your concern was to go from a 3.8 to a sbc i think all you have to do is change the motor mounts and move the frame mounts up i could be wrong though

If you have a 3.8 you might consider a supercharged engine from a Bonneville SSE or similar.
It won't be straightforward as you will need to add the required bits for fuel injection, but the suspension won't need strengthening for the extra weight of a V8.

How much do you want to spend?, the sky's the limit if you have unlimited funds.

Roger.

Like I said I'm only trying to spend a couple bucks for now. And I could get my hands on an m90 supercharger for less than 100 but theirs no manifold what's the view on that?
