I just wanted a solid answer on what backspacing will be needed.

Going to run 225/70R15 front. 15x8
275/60R15 rear. 15x8

I've seen people say no problem with 3.5"- 4.5" backspace.

Right now I have 205/70R15 on 15x8 with 3.313" backspace and the front grinds the fender on deep suspension travel.

Thanks for input.

I ran 225/70-15s on my 80 Malibu 2 door, mounted on 15x8 Corvette alloys (76-82 style). I believe they were 4 or 4.25" backspace. They caught the very bottom of the fenders ahead of the wheels when turning. Also rubbed badly on major dips, and that was with new F41 air-conditioned springs and gas shocks. Replaced them with 235/60s and cleared up all those problems.

Just something to consider.

Don't run a 70 up front, it'll be too tall, and that's why they catch.
Run a 225/60 instead.

...loads a fresh clip in an AK-47... I also agree that the problem is that the tires are too damn tall. I would avoid 70 series tires on anything larger than a 14 in rim on a G body. As for backspacing, I run 4 in backspacing all around with 245 50 16's. No real issue on the back ( but the frame shows where the paint is rubbed off by the tire... I assume it's rocks and gravel as I don't hear rubbing or see evidence on the tire), but the front used to rub until I did some drastic, invisible on the outside, mods to the inner and outer fenders.

I am running 205/70/15 on the front which is 26.3" tall. Its not hitting the inner fender, its hitting the lip.

Can anyone please chime in who is running 275/60R15 rear? Fronts I am not really concerned with.

Also its a magazine, not a clip.

I mocked up 275/60R15's on my set of 8.5" rims that I intend on using for some sticky mickeys and they fit, though I never drove it on the street to make sure, just the driveway. I should also mention, that while they cleared the frame rails, one side was a lot closer to the wheel well lip than the other side. I'm not sure what would cause this, whether it's the rear end out of alignment, or if it's supposed to be slightly off center for some reason. I'm afraid I don't remember the BS on those rims, and they're stashed away in my storage container at the moment.
That probably doesn't help much, but writing it kept me entertained for about 10 minutes...

Hey blake, the reason one side was closer to the fender is because these bodies were hardly ever squared up on the frame. I think i heard there was like a 1/4 to maybe 1/2" tolerance on that.
