Well i just finished installing my GN posi rearend with discs and now that both tires are gripping real well i now get severe wheel hop when doing a burnout. What causes this and how do i get rid of it? My old rear was smooth as heck when smoldering the tires how come this rear hops now.? I have never had this problem with this car before with 3 different rearends and over 20 years of owning it and doing burnouts.

What else was changed along with the rear? Control arms, Shocks, springs, sway bar, tires, wheels, anything at all? Was the prior rear a posi? What about the bushings mounted on the upper control arm mounting tabs on the rear? Did you keep the ones that came with the 8.5 rear?

I would suspect worn bushings or shocks, but the fact that you didn't have this problem before is a bit puzzling, unless you changed something else that could cause the problem.

i had the same problem on my 1980 malibu after it sat for 4 yrs. it had really bad wheel hop and it just had the stock rear end in it. come to find out the shocks were blown out and once i changed the shocks the problem was solved.

I used the 8.5 lower control arms with the upper 7.5 original ones, i hope this wasn't the problem i thought they were the same? The old shocks were put back on and they seemed fine, I used the 7.5 sway bar on the 8.5 also, same tires and rims.

How are your bushing? People tend to overlook them. If they are worn this will cause wheel hop. Also if you have a HP at the rear wheels look at getting boxed lower control arms..Worst case scenario is the pinion angle correct since you are mixing different arms...

just try changing the shocks first and see if that solves the problem. i thought mine were good cause there wasnt any fluid around them. but i still changed them and that fixed it. plus its the cheapest way to find out

When you swapped the rear you also swapped out 6 of the 8 control arm bushings: all 4 lowers, and the two uppers mounted to the rear. If you still have the 7.5 lower control arms, try swapping them back in to see if that helps.
