I don't think that putting the temp sender in a T in the line would give as accurate of a reading as putting it in the pan itself...

That's definately not the right way to do it.
The pan alone doesn't provide enough contact on the surface of the threads to allow for a secure seal.
Be prepared for yours to leak or even fail.

Pontiac455 said:u will get yer best reading if u T into the inlet line going from the transmission to the cooler. If ya put the sensor in the pan all u are gettin is the temp reading of the fluid that has passed thru the cooler.
