yea I got my shifter in but since my car was originally a colum shift car I connected the old linkage and the new linkage and it works perfectlygaryl24 said:hey bud, did you ever get your shifter lined out? if so what all did you wind up doing? thanks
what big purple wire? bec i do want to eventually splice the wires, when i looked at the wired there were alot of purple wiresRocket said:when i wired the switch into my shifter I spliced into a big Purple wire that ran with the column wires
ok thanks, I appreciate itRocket said:I'll have to get back to you on that, been a few years since I did it
i was just thinking about splicing the wire because i guess one of the rubber gromets or something is worn on the old linkage and sometimes the reverse lights wont go on bec the shift indicator on the dash isnt in the "correct spot" but the car goes into every gear just fineFE3X CLONE said:The easiest solution is to keep the linkage under the car and let it work the steering column like the stock shifter.
That white connector is NOT a neutral safety switch. These cars use a mechanical means to keep you from being able to turn the key in anything other than park or neutral.
The purple wire they are talking about splicing into is the starter wire running from the ignition to the starter. Tying into that with one of your micro switches would then give you a neutral safety switch.
But as mentioned, you don't really need to mess with that if you keep the stock mechanical linkage that runs from the parking lever on the trans up to the steering column.
