Tried putting my third gen camaro box on my 78 lemans today, i was told to use the g-body pitman arm but the splined shaft on the box is too big.
Did the 82 and up g-body metric box have the bigger splined shaft as well or can i use the camaro arm?
Putting the stock box back in is not an option as its leaking badly. This is my daily driver so i need to sort this out asap.
Thanks in advance for replies.

Sorry I missed this til now. You may have things sorted out. If not, maybe I can help. I have the IROC Z XH box in my 86 Cutlass and I even reused the Camaro pitman. Some guys say it needs to be swapped for the g-body pitman. I'm not sure where the clearance problem is but I didn't have any problems at all on my daily driver.

The difference in boxes is this- the 800 series box (4 bolt cover) uses a large diameter pitman shaft. The 600 series (snap ring cover) and manual boxes use a smaller diameter pitman shaft. The problem getting the correct pitman arm is that since the center link has the ball joint , the pitman arms are not considered "wear parts" and not stocked or reproduced. I had to scrounge the correct arm from a junkyard, but it only cost 5 bucks, me pulling it. I don't know if the part #'s are the same, but If the camaro arm works , great. But I would try to get the correct one to maintain the steering geometry.

if yoou look up part numbers, they are the same from car to car, s-10 manual box and pitman arm also work
