I am learning to solder this year and need solder.
There is lead base and lead free, acid flux and rosin flux, and different sizes and ratios.
It is hard to find lead base at the local stores so I will have to make a trip to Princess Auto if I want lead base solder.
Can anyone point me in the right direction ??

Soldering electrical wires or copper pipes?

Electrical wires,as in car wiring..

you don't need lead base. any old rosin core junk from radio shack will do fine for just regular point wiring/splicing/etc. Don't try to use plumbing solder. I guess you could try but I don't even know how that would work.

It doesn't work at all and will wreck your soldering iron in short order.

The key to soldering is cleanliness, but also wire stability. The wires need to be held completely motionless for 20 seconds after you remove the heat until the solder freezes. You watch the solder freeze, then count to 10, then touch the wires.

Thats a great video ! Ive been soldering wires together for years. I use a linesman splice. Much better than crimp butt connectors. Another thing Ive been doing for a long time is I cut the colored insulators off of the ring connectors and use small pieces of shrink tubing instead. I think its a cleaner look.

the problem with that method is I don't think the schools are teaching the kids how to count any longer...

They can count to 10, but they have the attention span of a gnat, so when the get to 6 they get bored and grab the wires.

For millenial's: "Remove heat from wires, check you phone for any facebook updates, then touch the wires"
