hi, i want to change out my b&m 2k stall on my 700r4 30 spline with lockup for a higher one. just feels too much like a stock converter. i can push it to about 1800 and thats it brakes will not hold it. i know, i know, i pulled a boner getting the 2k stall. i have a built 355 with cc xe 268 cam with worked over+ big valves on stock heads going into 3.42 with a locker. the rear end is a bit heavy since it is a wagon but i think more stall speed will help write on the asphalt quicker while doing a brake stand instead of it struggling 1st then catching up to itself like about a 5 second delay. i am contemplating a 2500 or so but how would a 3k work? what do you guys run and how do you like it? also who is the cheapest without getting it off the boat from over seas!? thanks.

I wouldn't recommend a 3000 stall as it doesn't match that cam.

When you choose a stall converter, you have to look at the power band and where peak torque is achieved and begins to transition into horsepower. If you get too much stall, your powerband will move onto the downslope of the torque powerband, which isn't good because torque is what's going to get your wagon moving off the line.

So yes a 2400-2500 stall would work perfect for you and that cam. I'm doing a similar setup to yours except I'm using Lunati's 268 voodoo cam. I went with a Dacco 2300-2500 stall, which with the power your probably making would stall at 2400rpm.

How much did you pay for that dacco converter....You install it yet, and if so any issues with it? I haven't heard much good about them guys???

No I have yet to install it, still need to pull existing motor and trans. I paid $225 for the 2300-2500 lock-up stall converter (their pro street version). The shop where I bought it from is called Nogalitos Gear and is very reputable. There are a few other members on here in the San Antonio area, and this shop is known for good business and dealing specifically with transmissions. Their entire stock of stall converters is Dacco so I trust the brand itself if this trans shop is carrying them.

Not trying to steal the thread.....I am also in need of a new stall converter as the one in my car now is only a 2000 stall and I think I need a bigger stall which will help me get a faster E.T. I have the eddy performer rpm cam (234/244 advertised duration, 488/510 lift), eddy performer rpm air gap with dart pro-1 aluminum heads (2.02 valved and 200 cfm)....Not sure which one to go with...I'm thinking the 2200-2800???

That should work for you Jbreau. With the power your making and that converter, it will stall out in the 2400-2600 rpm range. If you had a big block then you would be looking at the 2700-2800 rpm range.

i think with his power output he can get it to stall at 2800. and dacco is a good brand. good quality. ive used a few of there converters. i had a 3500. and could get it stall to 4k. the one im running now is a 3k. and i can stall the car almost up to 3500 with the foot brake.

BJohn07, Are you also running the Dacco converter?? Whered you get yours from and how much? I hear all kinds of mixed reviews out there on all kinds of converters...I think the Coan coverter is nice, but man big bucks...ACC performance are new to the game but make a great converter. I had a 3k one in my th-400 and loved it. Retro (200/700 O/D guru) on MonteCarloSS.Com turned me on to PTC Converters and it looks like they are going to get my next hard earned dollars..... 28000-3200 and I should be able to stall it around 3500 for $450.00. But I think with the low 1str gear in my 700-r4 with the 4.10 rear gears that stall may be a bit high???

I'm running a 3k stall on my 700r4, with 3.42 gears.
I personally think it's a little much and my car would benifit more from a 2500 or 2800.

when foot braking, she starts to let go around 2k rpm... maybe my brakes suck. And foot hard to the floor, without brakes, she'll stall to about 2500rpm before putting all the torque down.

I think 3k stall is a little agressive for my engines power band, and it seems that way for your specs too.
