EL CAMINO White lightning our 81 street/strip car

Fired it up! Spent the morning doing a couple piddly things getting it on tdc, plopping the dizzy in and getting the wires ran!

I was actually blown away got everything where I thought it should be timing wise and first pull of my lone wolf 9000 it puttered a little bit, second pull of the trigger it fired off and idled, I figured I’d be fighting timing to get it there where it would just idle while I got the timing set to do the brake in

I am beyond pumped! Running, broke it in while pissing the neighbours off with open headers 😂

The stink eye I got from the lady next to us was incredible when I when to grab more coolant

Congratulations. I found just start it up in the middle of the day maybe during the week when most people are at work and that’s the best you can do. Mine was a 15:1 565 with 4” collectors and no mufflers but I tried my best to not be rude.

Well looks like I’m doing this all again…. First cruise sounded great, was running great, ran it up to about 4k let off and start hearing a tap tap tap sounded lower end

clicked it into nutral and as I went to click the ignition off I hear a kathunk… f me… yup it’s locked up but maybe since it was at an idle it didn’t kill the block fingers crossed, valve train all looks good so that’s a plus… time to get the 350 back out and the 305 back in

If I was within earshot of that thing firing up I'd come find you just to see it. And you'd never get rid of me.

Oh that sucks. I hope you find something obvious and not too terrible as you take it a part
Yeah, I was not having a great week already then this, got the garage cleaned up lastnight since it looked like a bomb went off, pushed the car back in and got a phone call from one of our racing friends he goes I got a motor for ya! I’m willing to donate it to your racing program! I said deal drove out there and picked it up today

Looks like white lightening is getting a 400 small block

Best kind of price free 99 i asked him multiple times if he was sure he didn’t want anything for it and he goes nope just a pickle rad racing sticker on the car! I said DONE I just need one, going to contact my decal guy since they don’t have any. And get something

Guessing it’s mild complete 400 there. I had on in my 79 Malibu around 1989-1990 timeframe.
Looks like a stock motor, he said it might have a cam in it but wasn’t sure, he got it from another racer a few years

Gunna stab it in and send it for the season,

Just make sure you get the right flexplate as it’s externally balanced. Not sure what you have now as the g-body used a 153 tooth flexplate. Back when I did it, I took a 153 tooth flexplate and had it balanced to match the 168 externally balanced 400 flexplate.

He had one with the motor it’s a168tooth but I had reman starter sitting on the shelf for the bigger tooth count just need to verify it has the right bolt positions for the tq converter

Pretty much every one I’ve used has had the dual bolt pattern for large and small pattern converters.
