Ok guys so as many of you know i just picked up a muncie for my ride. Now im trying to figure out which Hurst shifter will work the best. I've read a bunch of info from Doober and others but nothing works as well as photos. My understanding is the shifter will come through the floor just in front of the buckets. but i have no clue what shifter works best, i.e. straight, angled, how much etc etc.

I know this does not apply perfectly... but here is a shifter a friend used on his M22 in his 69 Cutlass.

The shifter is quite nice, however the linkage was tough to clear the floor. He also had issues of it binding. And the angled rod, as you can see, hits the seat in the 2 & 4 positions.
you might encouter the same issue in your car

i found these courtesy of "Speedkills80" supposed to be the shifter from a 68 chevelle

No pics, but I has a Hurst Super Street Shifter in my old GP with an M-22. And it fit with the factory bench.

im going to bump this to the top. currently getting to the point where i am shifter shopping. so i need to make sure i get this close to right as possible lol. anymore help would be greatly appreciated

Don't confuse the shifter with the arm. As shifters go I think the Competition Plus is pretty much the all time favorite. Since you have a Muncie, it must attach at the end of the tailhousing which is about 6" rearward of the stock shifter location. Thus, the issue becomes, which handle will then clear your seats? This is an old pic of a Comp Plus in the location your's will be at the end of the tailhousing. It has the stock A/G body arm, but the part the arm bolts to (dog?) is offset to the right as it is out of a 68' Firebird and that centers it nicely in the console. See how the arm tilts backwards? That's why it would interfere with a bench seat and why the factory positioned the shifter more forward. If you use bucket seats, anything you want will fit. I would lean toward a straight shorty rod like the #538-7238.

yeah im running buckets. what had me worried was that different shifter part #s use different style linkages or something like that. just want to make sure i get it right lol.

ps my muncie it the fine spline with th400 output that uses the bolt on levers and not the nuts
