Who's running Pypes exhaust

Be wary of ordering your exhaust directly from Pypes. They are rude and incompetent.[/quote]

That is the truth! Ive dealt when them at a couple swap meets. The 2 working the pypes booth were cocky and just plain rude to us paying customers. Their products are nice tho. I put one their manifold back kits on my buddys 2nd gen T/A with a little trimming if fit great.

I have the 2.5" side exit with racepros and I like it. I agree, bumper exit are a chevy thing. The kit fit nicely, but took some time wiggling it to fit correctly. Make sure the rear is supporting the weight in the rear so its at ride height when you set up the over the axle part. The whole kit did install nicely building from back to front, then you just need to make something up to meet your headers/manifolds. In my case one side was a straight 12" piece and the other was a nightmare, but that's my cheap headers fault, not pypes. It also sounds nice. It's mild at idle and LOUD accelerating.

Overall, I'd recommend it. Also, I bought mine from the pypes guys at a swapmeet and had no issues with them, but who knows?

I started fitting my exhaust today and so far I'm pretty happy with the fitment. I have pontiac RA manifolds with the mandrel bent down pipes all from R.A.R.E., and I'm so relieved everything is working together. It's been money well spent and I rarely feel that way! I agree that I need to raise the rear end to be sure on clearance because you get slight interference with the upper trailing arms when trying to position the tail pipes. My car doesn't have any factory drilled holes for the tail pipe mounting like the directions suggest, so I'll be drilling once everything is set. 8)

I finally got around to drilling my frame for the tail pipe brackets and everything is fitting nicely. The only thing I haven't done is install the hangers behind the mufflers. Do you mind if I ask where you bolted yours to? I pretty much figured I'm going to have to tweak those hangers since nothing about them looks like a direct bolt-in.

Hello, Im new to the G-Body forum, I have a 84 Pontiac Grand Prix that I'm building right now. I'll post pics soon. I've been working on the build for two years. I'm more than half way finished. I bought the Pypes 2 1/2" stainless steel exhaust system. I believe I bought them through Summit Racing. The kits fit and finish where excellent. I use Magnaflo mufflers. The pipes run to the back of the rear wheels. I thought this looked better than when I had them run all the way back to the rear of the car.To me it looks kind of cheesy. The sound is awesome. Its quiet with normal driving but comes alive when you get on it. Hope this helps. sorry I was so late getting on this tread. I 'm new so please have patience with me. I'll post pics of the build from star to finish as I have done a ton of work. The car is literally new from the ground up.To many upgrades to list. I think when I'm finished the only thing that won't be new is the frame, body panels and some of the interior.
Thanks

sorry for the delayed reply. I hung them off the upper control arm crossmember. I put a 90* bend in the hanger after mocking them up and then drilled a hole on each side for one of their self tappers. It did take a little playing around, a vise to bend them, and a second set of hands to get it all in place.

Ive got the pypes header back set with street pro mufflers. Too loud for my taste, but the headers are probably half the reason. The system doesnt fit well with the headers, IE it will require someone who knows how to make and install pipe to get the headers connected to the system. I had it all welded up by a shop, but Im pretty sure the guy doing the welding didnt realize he was welding stainless steel with his mig gun, and I think the welds are starting to break/leak. The car sounds good, but theres a lot of drone at certain speeds. So, its not a fun car to travel long distance in.... live and learn.....:blam:
