Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Olds?

Well I can tell you that you can make well over 425hp for what they are asking for that crate. I don't know the engine blocks max power but for most of us it will handle what we want. The rotating assembly is where you need to put your cash. I have never really heard of stock chevy blocks breaking or not being able to handle high horsepower. I know several people pushing lots of nitrous in old 355's with no problems other than accelerated wear. But these people are taking a 350 hp 355 and putting a 300 shot to them.

Well I sort of set my goal with the Edelbrock 2096 Top End kit. (460HP/460TQ) My question is if this cam is too much for the street? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-2096/

That cam does look a touch larger than what I would prefer on the street. The heads and cam are going to make power in the higher rpm ranges so stop and go driving will suffer. You might want to start another thread if you wanna get more opinions on what to run. For what its worth I have heard good things about the Edelbrock kits.

Power range is from 1,500 to 6,500 so maybe its "partially" streetable? I'm starting to think too, that if I did go with the above mentioned edelbrock kit, I'd might as well search for any 87-2002 block with 4-bolt mains. I'd assume looking for just a vortec 5700 at this point would be a waste of time since I'd be replacing the heads/cam/intake anyways.

Re: Why do so many frown upon swapping Chevy engines into Ol

I've always considered myself to be a pretty diverse motorhead. About the only type of "hot-rodding" that I've ever really been prejudiced towards is front wheel drive crap. THAT I will never understand. Taking a FWD car to a drag strip is like sending a little girl to the boy's bathroom. No one will ever convince me its any different; I don't care how fast the pos is, if its FWD its just gay.

I say put whatever motor ya got in whatever you got - don't worry about what people think. In fact, the more non-mainstream your swap is, the more admiration you'd get from me. It shows resourcefulness. I've swapped all kinds of sh*t into just about everything over the years. One of my favorite swaps is the Caddy 500 swap. Most people can't even identify those engines and are left scratching their heads after you've handed them their *ss in a street race or wherever you happen to be.
