Okay so I want to know what are the widest tires with correct back space and mods to the car to make it fit. So what I have read is a 275/40/r17 will fit front with modification and 315/35/r17 will fit rear but my question really is since the front tire is taller than the rear would it upset the suspension? And have any problems with handling from the difference in height?

Ill try to help. Im no tire expert, but ill give it a shot.
The easiest way I can think to explain is the wider (275 or 295 or 315) the tire is will also effect the side wall (35 or 45 or 55) of your 17" tire. How much can also vary from tire manufacturers. Overall diameter or tire height is what we are talking about.
So the O.D. of a 315/35/17 would be 25.68. The O.D. of a 275/40/17 would be 25.66. So not much difference in the overall tire height between the two.
This is my understanding of how it works and also influenced my purchase of wheels and tires.

Also, Im fairly certain you will not be able to fit 315 anything on a g body without some type of modification to either the frame, the fenders, or both.

Sorry forgot to put I am in the process of notch and fender rolling. And what would be the backspace and offset I need to fit the tires under the car?

Depends on how much of a frame notch you get. I would measure after the notch/fender roll is done. That way you can get as much tire under there as possible.

I believe 4.5 BS is the safest for G bodys that are NOT modified. But I have read claims of some fitting 5" BS on a factory set up. The issue is that its very rare for a stock G body axle to be dead center from the factory.

I ended up with 275/40/18 in the rear with 4.5 backspace and -6 offset IIRC. That kept it in the wheel well and less than 3/8 inch from the frame on both sides.
I would have loved to go with 295s but didn't want to risk having to run spacers to get the tires to work.

If you are notching and therefore tubbing the car you can pretty much design it to fit what you have or want. The other option is to change the rear axle and add GNX flares.

I am running 285/40r17 rears on my SS with a 9.5" rim 5" bs. Only mod I have done is trim the wheel well lip with body saw. Also the car has a 2" drop on it. The frame is 3/8" from backside of the tire, going to do frame notch soon for more room when running my slicks.
