Don't discount the 7.5 immediately. If you don't plan on taking it to the strip weekly with over 500hp and slicks, a properly built 7.5 will be plenty fine.

yeah, your right doober,im going to put ring spacer in it/3.23s. then do the engine swap 307 to 403 maybe 455 if i can find one cheap.and run it till it breaks.!might just do same w/403.im pretty confident in olds stuff, ill keep updating till it breaks.it might surprise us.later,BO

If you are gonna run the spacer here's a link to it at summit racing.

That's the same one i'm using right now. Its working but its always a worry in the back of my mind along with the fact i only have a 7.5 rear. I will say that i have a vibration that comes in around 65 mph but i havent decided that the spacer caused it. Yet.

thanks for the link,i didnt find it on there,so i called today.same part #.then i looked up my local''pull-a- part,i can get carrier there for $50,so im leaning towards that now.i do need more info on donor cars. heres what i think iknow...82-87 s-10s/limited slip code ''g80'',astro/safari ,same yrs.f-bodies not sure on those .im gonna go this weekend. this way i hope to find posi w/3.42 .on the cheap!! then im gonna run it till it breaks!!later,BO

You pretty much know what your looking for. You can use newer year vehicles for your gears, but should stay 87 and older for the carrier. Happy hunting and good luck.
