I plan on upgrading the engine as well but for now if need be is this possible? In the original brochure it wasn't an option. Thanks for any and all info

the 200-4r should bolt to any 1960-1990 (plus or minus) chevy motor and probably the same on the rest of GM. in terms of power, well they're stock behind the V8's and as he said^ GN's.
when built right they will survive well over 600hp. i've heard they even survive behind 900hp drag motors.

I agree with the previous posts but...will your 231 have enough power to pull it in OD? You may need to re-gear the rear end if you haven't yet. Worst case - you may have to keep it in 3rd.

The rear end also is going to go, I have a bone stock regal. I would like to swap the engine out as well. The reason I wa askin" is if I had to replace the transmission ahead of time.

it will work just fine. they put them in GNs so yes it'll bolt right up.

Sounds like you have a solid plan in place. When you get ready to select a replacement rearend, give this a try (I know I post it up alot but it's really helpful  ):

I found that in my particular case the 2.29s could be replaced with 3.42s and give me the same cruise RPM. This allowed me to retain the exact same MPG while gaining quicker acceleration. It's worth spending some time playing with. Good luck on your swap.

Is a different crossmember needed? Does the drive shaft need to be cut?
