just make sure the 200r4 bellhousing has a buick bolt pattern. I think most were built with a dual bolt pattern but I know some were build with just a bolt pattern for a chevy

I wonder if that will work, I had a 200 r4 behind the stock 305 in my Caprice and it could barely move the car without knocking or pinging. Maybe you'll have better luck since you're in a lighter g-body.

AFAIK 2004r's came with a dual pattern (chevy and BOP) or a BOP only pattern. if you have pics of a 2004r with a chevy only bolt pattern i'd like to see it.

If I may highjack this thread a bit....I was planning to run a th350 behind my sbo 350. But I have found a 200r4 and Im wondering how much trouble it would be to use this instead. Id like to have overdrive, but I dont have a 307 ecm to control the engine and was not planning to use one. what would I need to do to make this trans work? (driveshaft, crossmember, ecm)? How does the ecm relate to the od trans? Thanks~!

anybody? 😀

The TH-2004R (it's 4R and not R4 like the 700. 😉) was a pre-computer controlled trans. The only thing the stock ECM controlled was the lock-up torque converter. This can easily be remedied by using an aftermarket lockup controller from B&M.

What trans is in your car now?

The car came with the 3.8l v6 and a 200metric. I was planning to use a th350 but was concerned about mpg. If the 2004r is a simple swap, then I will use it, but if it will require a diff drive shaft or crossmember or other mods, it might not be worth the trouble and expense. Thanks for the info!

Do you know who has this part? Part number?

THanks!

if you going to use a kit for the lock up they will tell you that you need a two wire solenoid. When you remove the pan if you only have a one wire don't waste your money to buy a two wire. They are all two wire but some ground the solenoid on the mounting bracket for the solenoid and they call those a one wire...but all you have to do is add wire to that ground wire to make it into a 2 wire
