If the 75 TA box is anything like the Monte Carlo SS or 80's Camaro box the 83 pitman arm off the Malibu will not fit the fast ratio box. I found out this the hard way. I ordered a Monte Carlo SS box from the parts store and found the 83 Malibu pitman arm to be to small of a diameter to spline onto the Monte Carlo box. Had to go to the wreckers and find a suitable pitman arm. Seems like the Iroc Camaro share the same pitman arm as the Monte Carlo SS.

If the TA box is an 800 type box like the Monte Carlo SS, IROC, GTA, etc, and the box in the wagon is a 605 series box, then the pitman will not fit. If the box in the car is an 800 series box (with 4-bolts on the top cover plate), then chances are good that the pitman arm is interchangeable. The '83 wagon could have either steering box. That would still have to be determined.
BTW, the 605 box has the round cover on top held on with a snap ring.

I'm in the process of swapping the engine and transmission and thought it would be a good time for an upgrade. I'm taking off the AC and cruise control which hasn't worked in sometime and upgrading to a jeep steering shaft. I have had the TA clip for a bunch of years now and I figured someone would know if it was worth looking into. I'm going to do a visual comparison first and maybe dig it out of the snow and remove the box for a better look. I plan to add a homemade gp brace to the front and a trailer hitch brace to the rear. I have a set of air springs bags to firm up the rear. A set of dropped spindles for the front that I may or may not use. I have a 21 year old daughter that loves to drive the car but she has scrapped the bottom at least once so it might be wise to lower it too much. I'm looking to find a set of 15" x 6" ralley II Rim to replace the 14s. I'm working on a budget but a set of poly bushing might be worth while. I picked up a monte ss 2004r for 150 last year and a rebuilt 305 that was in a restored 70 chevelle for 500 that is replacing the 250000 km drivetrain. I have a set of 342s for the rear but might look for 308s instead. So that is where all this started from.
Thanks

Lindsay,
Sounds like you pretty much have a game plan mapped out. That's a good start. When changing the trans to the 200-4R, you might want to stick with the 3.42 gears instead of considering the 3.08's. The 3.08's are what I consider an alternative if you're not running overdrive. I'm currently using 3.08 gears with my TH-350. Once I change over to overdrive, I will be going back to the 3.42 gears.
I removed the cruise control components and went with a direct replacement speedo cable. Part # 03160 from Advance Auto parts. It's 100" long. I will be going back with A/C though.

X2 on the 3.42s with the 200-4R. That's what I run behind my 305 and couldn't be more pleased.

I have a set of 342 and that's what I should probably use. I might have found a ss box locally.
