I am looking at dong my next brake upgrade, 1 car got a blazer brake setup installed here recently that I used brembo rotors and stainless brake lines on. the other car, my 86 442 was about to get a ls1 brake upgrade done to stock spindles so I already had the calipers and abutments sitting in the shop for the last few years. I found another set of blazer spindles in the local salvage yard yesterday so I started looking into using the ls1 brakes on those instead. Well after reading a bunch of threads it seems that the ls1 brakes do not work easily with the blazer spindles BUT C5 brakes work great. I then read that the calipers on C5s and ls1 setups are very similar and are interchangeable. So what I want to do is use my existing ls1 calipers with a C5 rotor on the blazer spindle. From what I read the ls1 caliper actually has larger pistons and more bite but they may not be as strong with heavy track use which I don’t really see me needing. Also it means that I can swap the C5 caliper onto the ls1 abutments with no issues in the future which is a heck of allot cheaper than having to get the abutments for the C5 setup. as far as brackets go I have a drawing that gives me all of the info for the C5 abutments to be bolted to the spindle and from what I am reading the ls1 abutment spacing is slightly off, I plan to take that into account when I fab the brackets. I operate CAD for a living and my employer has a fab shop with materials on hand so the brackets will cost me nothing. if this can work the only thing I am going to be investing money into is rotors, pads and stainless brake lines. am I missing something that is preventing this from working? Thanks in advance for any help!

I read through that earlier. the only reason I can see that you need the C5 abutments is because they don't make the correct spaced bracket to use this combo with the ls1 abutments which is why I want to correct the bracket that I make to accept the la1 abutments. or am I wrong on that? I have read so many things that they are meshing together In my mind lol

The C5 are abutments allow for the larger diameter rotors which is really the difference so the mounting hardware is spaced out a bit more.

I think ls customs did a ls1 front brake upgrade on his g. I have not seen many front ls1 swaps for the blazer spindle. flynbye has the brackets for the standard bearing spindle.

I don’t think you are understanding what I am trying to do here. I am not doing a true ls1 brake swap, I am using only the caliper and abutments from the ls1 and using a C5 rotor which from what I am reading is doable. Everything I have read says that the C5 and ls1 abutments even though they are not identical, the calipers interchange. Now the issue with using the ls1 abutments is the mounting bolt spacing is slightly off so when I make my own custom bracket I use all of the exact dimensions of a C5 bracket except adjust the spacing for the ls1 abutments. This makes is so I can use the parts I have on hand and get 13” brakes
