So just did an engine swap and converted from TBI to carb all went smooth except TV cable was too long and low on funds to get correct cable so was wondering if this would work , see attached pic it's a 305 with quadrajet with a 700r4. When WOT the TV cable is fully pulled out so I don't see why this wouldn't work any input please as I don't won't to ruin my transmission thanks

I wouldn't recommend it. I don't think the tv cable is supposed to fully extend. The adapters they sell for tv cables on edelbrock or holley carbs are for "correcting geometry," and they actually move the mounting point backwards from where yours is connected to the kickdown stud. It's not as easy as making a kickdown cable work unfortunately.

My Uncle's 496 stroker spit out a couple of transmissions due to this issue.

OK thank you I have already went around the block three times I hope I did not mess anything up .what do I need to do this correctly then?

The damage caused to the 700's is generally to the overdrive gear, so going around the block a few times is not likely to have caused damage. The TV cable is self adjusting, though with the mount too close to the Carb, it will not adjust. So long as the TV is pulled to WOT at WOT, and is not totally slack at closed thottle, it should be "OK". I would recommend getting a different mounting bracket, as the solution you have, could come off and cause problems before you realize it.

Thank you guys for the input I've been stuck on what to do so basically the mounting bracket on my carb now is for kick down not TV but it happens to fit the TV connector? I thought maybe I just got lucky and got a carb with stock geometry corrector.

The TV cables bracket and mounting point on the throttle arm are supposed to follow a certain arc, to make sure the TV cable transferes the throttle lever movement to the T.V. plunger in the control valve assembly. This causes T.V. pressure and line pressure to increase according to engine throttle openings and controls part throttle and detent downshifts.

If the arc of the movement, and the brackets for distance, aren't correct, the transmission won't see correct line pressure in a given rpm or gear. The trans could short shift, shift soft at high RPM's, etc. Way back in the day a ruined a 2004R in short order behind my big block till I got the TV cable mounting correct.

Here is a good link from Art car, with some directions on how to fabricate a bracket.

Another link with some adjustment procedures assuming you have a correct geometry bracket.

You never stated what carb you have, but there are aftermarket brackets and adapter for the throttle arm of Holley and Edelbrock available through Summit and like. I think Bowtie overdrives offers some also.

This is for the throttle arm of a Holley.

This is for an Edelbrock

Here is a whole kit (best value), never tried one though.

This is for if you don't have the exact correct geometry. When the TV cable is adjusted correctly, at WOT, the TV cable is pulled out and the TV plunger is flush against the face of the valve body, and should make the transmission give max line pressure for those best up shift. Sometimes, you get better part throttle upshifts with the cable adjusted out a few clicks, raising line pressure, but when you hit WOT, it messes up that adjustment. This little doodad gives you a few clicks of adjustment play.

Personally, I have made my own bracket numerous times using the above instructions. Pulled the pan to make sure my plunger was pushed all the way after adjustment, and attached a pressure gauge to the pressure tap to be sure my line pressures were correct.

Hope some of this helps.

A TH350-C SBC Monte uses the same cable bracket and carburetor bellcrank as an 85-88 200-4R SBC Monte.
So your bracket looks correct. Your attachment point on the q-jet is correct.

But, the cable itself is different on the TBI models. Spare your transmission and spring for the right cable please.
