Yes, Comrades, you polluting less and use less fuel now. More fuel efficient vehicle mean less emission. However, there is problem. You not paying enough tax to pay for government. Now we need to tax you for miles driven. You see, government get money from gas tax to pay for roads. You no buy gas, we no get money. So now, we tax you by the mile, so even if you buy small car to save money, we still get ours. This applies to citizens of The People's Republic's of California, New York, Colorado, and other like minded Soviets.

That's one way, but in some countries they use GPS transponders to monitor you and your car, so you can't disconnect the odometer and cheat the tax. That means a whole lovely new layer of government knowledge about your private business. I can't wait for this, as I drive 30-40k miles a year for work, and this added level of taxation will be my ruin.

Is that the U.S. government doing that, or is that the state's government that came up with that? I am asking that because I am just wondering why is it just those states?

How about those of us that own 7 vehicles? What about a farm pick-up that barely sees real road time? How do they keep track of this stuff? I ask because I live 15 miles from the nearest town, so 50,000+ miles a year is not a problem for me.

I don't know the specifics, but yes it is a state thing right now, but if it works, expect the Federal government to want a piece of the action too. It's just those states because they are nearly bankrupt from excessive social spending. Rather than cut spending, they want to take more money from people. After all, the government knows how you should spend your money much better than you do.

wow.. if that ever comes here i don't know what to do...its already crazy enough with the new laws (ontario).

I was talking to a friend of mine in The United People's Soviet Socialist Democratic Republic of New York, and he said they only want to tax hybrid drivers and drivers of very fuel efficient cars. So... why buy one?
