Hello all, been around a while (both here and on the planet, lol). I've owned upwards of 150 Pontiacs including 3 79 Grand Ams (1 4spd), an 80 LeMans, and an 86 Grand Prix. Just bought another (4th) 79 Grand Am, I am awaiting it's arrival. It is the highest optioned one I've owned yet, power sunroof, auto. temp. control, PW, PDL, RWD, tilt, Saf-T-Trac, and the rare 79-80 GA & GP only real wire wheels among them. It is Dark Carmine Red over Gold with a red velour bucket seat (but no console!) interior. Here is a photo of it, I will post more photos and info when I get the car, which should be mid next week.

Thanks, Dave

Nice!

I think that car was for sale only about an hour from me. I was thinking about taking a look at it, but never got out there. I hope you enjoy it!

Wait a sec. They made 79 Grand Am's with a manual???

I only thought there was something like 270 79 GP'S made with the 4sp. Did these manual shift cars come with options? Any came with the viscount seats (or whatever they are called). How many 4sp Grand ams are made?

Yes, they sure did. In fact, you could get either the 231 V-6 o the 301 V8 with a 4spd but in 1979 only. The number I have heard is 233 but I don't know if it is accurate because that is the same number I have heard for the Grand Prix too. I know of a rough but all original 301 4spd car that can be bought for $1200 right now. If back issues didn't make driving a mechanical linkage clutch too painful for me, I'd buy it. I am getting more details if anyone is interested.

Troy, it probably is the same car, it was in the St. Cloud area. I will add pics as soon as I can get some taken.

Nice score, Dave.
It's hard enough finding a GA these days, but a well optioned car is the cherry on the cake.
So the wire wheels were a factory option? I can't say I've ever seen or heard of that before.
I'd love to see more pics of the car, interior, etc.

Jack,

Yes, they were a factory option although these are he first I've seen in person. There is a Black Grand Prix on eBay right now with them, here is a pic of it and a page from the 1979 Pontiac buyer's guide.

Hopefully, I can get some pics tomorrow.

-Dave
