Hey all, I know it's been a while since I've been here, been dealing with 'life'. Does look like there is light at the end of the tunnel though. The Grand Am is currently our sole source of transportation (my wife can't drive anyway, due the health issues filed under the aforementioned 'life'), so I have just been taking care of it with little progress in terms of restoring it. I did change to a TH350, although even that was a more difficult process that it should have been.
I did get a major score a couple of Saturdays ago, a buddy told me there was a Black 79 Grand Am in a salvage yard near here. I went and checked it out, turned out to be a Black on Black 78 Grand Lemans. I was able to get a complete set of Black interior plastic trim (as like most of our beloved GMs of this era, the red pieces are crumbling. Black seems to be the only color that isn't affected.). I also got the stamped metal speaker grilles and a set of 78-only silver faced gauges including tach. I will be selling the gauge cluster as soon as I can get some photos to post of it, but I do know the tach works (thanks mini ta). I am going back to get the bucket seat backs, lower door panels, and kick panels, I don't need them, but you can't have too many spare parts.
Hopefully soon, I will have new progress to report.
Dave
