I have a 83 cutlass calasis with a 307Y. My heat will not work on high but works on every other setting. I read a post that said the heater relay was probably bad. Where is this located. Can this be bought at the autoparts store or dealer only. Once I find it can I test it to see if it is bad or not. Thanks Shanezoid.

It is located in the engine compartment, bolted to the heater box on a car with A/C. It is a small little black box, with a plug coming into it from the bottom.

Here is a pic of it circled in red.

Isn't that the relay for the AC solenoid that's in your picrure?

Nice engine. 🙂

You know, it may be. lol

Been working for 16 hours straight on my server at work, tired.

I do remember that my heater wouldnt go on high, and it was because I had this unplugged.

So at this point, I am going to say that I am hallucinating and to me, everything is right.

Was thinking the same thing. Both of them 😀

But yeah, the heater relay should have a big plug going into it, iirc its mounted horizontally sticking out of the front of the box someplace. Two screws on either side. You can't see it on that photo.

Mine looks different and is not exactly in the same place. I will take a pic and post it later. Shanezoid.

That is a single position relay, like a Bosch, and not the A/C Relay. THe A/C relay is located on the A/C box and is directly behind the A/C Dryer (big aluminum can). It will have 5 or 6 wires coming off of it, one of which is about a 12 ga purple one that also runs to the fan resistor.Hard to explain without taking a pic, but it is usually a metal cased part. The plug that runs to it has a tendency to melt and turn to sh*t after a while as resistance builds over time, and the large gauge wire connection overheats and melts the connector.

The one I am talking about is metal it has got dark on me so I will take the pic tomorrow and post it. Shanezoid.
