Just wanted to figure out approximately how much paint is needed to paint the dash. I have a few other interior and trim pieces to do...maybe repaint the column as well. I was wondering if I should bother with rattle cans, or just have a quart or so mixed and shoot it with a touch-up gun. I also have to do the rear interior cargo panels from grey to burgundy. The door panels are already in nice shape, and the right color.

Also are the dash end filler pieces the same for all G-body dashes?

well i painted mine a couple months ago. i used color coat from local auto paint store and i did used rattle/spray can. it took about 4 cans i wanted a good coat on it 14.00 a can. and then after i painted it i used low luster 14.00 a can to give it a matted finish 2 cans of that. also get bulldog promoter 18.00 a can. or nothing will stick and it will scrape off easy. it is all in the prep of how you do it. mine turned out pretty nice.i painted all the plastic and vinyl interior pieces from dark blue to black.it takes awhile but in the end if you do it right you will be happy with the results. as far as the prep work i used GONE it removes the old wax and grease, then i used grey scotch bite to scuff up the plastic and vinyl parts also i used really fine wet sand paper to scuff up the plastic parts. then washed everything with soap and water let it dry then sprayed with the BULLDOG waited for it to dry.then sprayed another coat of bulldog. and when it was tacky started with the paint. alot of light coats. then when i was happy with the paint cover i let it sit for 24 hours and used the LOW LUSTER. also light coats. As far as the dash end pieces i believe they are. i have some from a cutlass a grand Prix and a regal. the ones i painted for mine are from a grand Prix.

Thanks for your advise and input. It certainly sounds like you did it the right way...also using the Bulldog Adhesion Promoter.
As you did, I also want to do it right the first time and not cut corners.
It sounds like you put a lot of prep work in your dash and interior. I also like the that you used mat clear over the color.

Thanks again, man. I appreciate your input.
BTW, your dash came out very nice.

It took you 4 cans? I did my entire GP dash, upper door panels, and both parts to the rear seat with 2 cans of SEM Landau Black. Came out good but I wish I used a clear coat because its more dull in certain areas but not real noticeable when polished up. The SEM stuff stuck real well to the dash and rear leather seat but not so well on the door panels. My guess is there is more grease and oils there than on the dash or seat. I also used the adhesion promoter only on the rear seat.

SEM didnt require many coats and it didnt need more than 3. Im just very surprised the back seat has held up the way it has since it sees alot of action(im gonna keep telling myself that until it comes true  )

Im pretty sure I got my dash done with 1 regular can of the SEM vinyl paint. Wipe it down with alchohol or use their vinyl prep agent. I was told to use the prep in between coats as well, though never did it myself.

Jack, I have done it both ways. With a custom color mixed from the local auto body supply (Dark Carmin), and rattle can (saddle). I used adhesion promoter both times. Both paints were SEM. I have done other colors on different cars, but these are my examples, lol

The custom mix was nice because with a touch-up gun, you know you can set the fan and everything to really get the color in the odd spots. I was dying/painting 4 different color interior parts to get the Elky one color.

The wagon, with the GP dash and all, was just the rattle can. Sprayed good and still looks good.

I know this isn't an answer per say, but I think I would rather spray it out of the pint/quart. Downside with that is if you get a scratch or something later, and don't have paint from that mix, it may be different.
