New Windshield! Mirror doesnt fit... 😞

For anyone that's interested. The GM part# is 9831062 for the original metal mount for the mirror. I found some videos last night. Glass pros say that you can heat the metal mount with a butane soldering torch and melt the glue so the mount will detach. You can do this with out damaging the glass.
I just used a Bic barbecue lighter for maybe 10 seconds on the tab and twisted it off with channel locks, it came off no problem.
I used a early-mid 90s oldsmobile 88 mirror that fits the tapered pad that I got from the junkyard today. Fits and looks good enough.

Wait...what broke? Mirror or windshield? Several thoughts...
Also, a novice using a heat source to detach the windshield mirror mount is a BAD idea. The possibility of damaging and/or cost of replacing a windshield as a result is not worth it. Unless, you're hell bent on original parts, just order a clip on, wider mirror to enhance rear visibility and be done. I kind of went down the same path until I purchased a wider mirror for my 87 El Camino.

No I cracked the mirror the shop gave me when I got a new windshield installed since my old one didn't fit the tab.
