A little progess and a good bit more confusion, I guess that is par for the course. The good is we resolved the shifting issues with the transmission, turned out to be a hole in the rubber vacuum line which we replaced. Then we put on a new factory starter to see if the old one was just not enough once it got hot after it was turning the locked motor, at first it seemed to have solved the issue of heat soak/not wanting to restart after running a bit but not sitting for more than 15 minutes. We had tested it a few times after a couple of runs down the road to get some heat in her and see, she restarted smoothly there so we figured we would take it a bit further and try where she basically died out last time we went to take a cruise.
That place must be haunted cause as I pulled up to it and started to already back up the car stalled and then didn't want to start for a good 10 minutes or so and really only started when I put my foot on the gas. It does the slow crank like it doesn't have enough juice for some reason, so finally after letting it sit a bit as I said she started with a blip of the gas so we ran it back to the shop and just as I pull in it stalls and dies again. Same deal, slow crank and doesn't want to fire. We let it sit a bit and looked around at other stuff and then fired up again after sitting 10 to 15 minutes just fine. While messing around with that it got my one head unit weirded out so I am hoping that doesn't continue to happen. Gonna try to see if I can get the battery I got as a replacement will be able to get swapped out since it has a much lower CCA which I think also doesn't help matters and is smaller so also probably has less of a reserve as I run all the electronics

Wasn't today but Saturday, but just had time to post. Took it out to its first car show since 2019. Covid and life was getting in the way. After getting her road worthy again from sitting for far too long, here she is!

Thought these pics were cool. Got to take a couple pics with some of the AZ DPS boys (State Troopers).

Just got back from the Dyno.
Previous setup, same engine both times.

1971 Buick 350, 2020 Dyno
-3.0 v6 flat top pistons, roughly 9-9.2:1
-TA_310 camshaft (too big for my setup imo)
-30 degrees of timing (8 initial 22 mech)
-10.8 WOT afr, secondaries too tight as well
-hooker headers, straight pipe dual 2.5"
******247hp/274ftlbs******

1971 Buick 350, 2024 Dyno
-same internals
-36 degrees of timing (14 initial, 22 mech)
-12.0 afr wot (changed secondary rods to thicker/leaner ones, loosened secondaries)
-added thrush welded chambered mufflers

******217hp/250ftlbs******

Pretty much what i expected for a stock bore 9:1 buick 350 with terrible flowing heads, too big of a cam, and loose converter, and 44,000 hard miles.

First pic is 2020 and 2024 overplayed, 2nd is 2024 on its own.

to summarize:
you increased timing, got a better AFR ratio, better exhaust system

.....and you LOST power and torque? o_O

Mufflers are a restriction. Especially chambered. The question is, it's 30hp less, is that 15hp per side?
