How safe are used vortec engines?

Check the engine # against the vin of the guys truck, then check odometer on truck, to get an idea of mileage.

    Lowering spindles

If you go to their store, they do list spindles for 78-87 cutlass separately.

    Olds 350 Oil pan

Unless it's a limited use "show car", I wouldn't even chrome a stock pan. Remember, chrome holds heat in. Do you want your oil to start cooking in a chrome pot?

    super orginal 1983 hurst olds

Guessing 160,000, odometer #s are off for being 60k. Not to say a car can't have high mileage and be kept in good condition at the same time. Still not 8k worth.

    intake gasket

I agree with double v. No copper coat needed. No thread sealant needed on bolts, maybe some oil on threads, and follow torque pattern. Good luck.

    Oil on intake manifold?

Is this on your 72 350 sbo? If so, sealent on threads won't work. All intake bolt holes are blind. Your oil is coming from somewhere else. Need a better indicator or pic of this burnt oil.

    I think I'm done with Sears/Craftsman.

Same here, as far as smaller socket sets. For bigger sockets, I have an assortment of S-K, Snap-On and Craftsman. If I need something special, I hit the flea markets. Usually, I can find old craftsman ratchets and various sockets for pennies on the dollar.

I have seen it, but it's hard to navigate if you don't know what section you're looking for, as they are not titled.

    engine swap?

Napa sells motor mounts, not the frame pads.

    engine swap?

Finding those frame mounts might be tough, considering they only put poncho engines in from 78-80 IIRC. P.S., there is no big block pontiac engine. :)

    A Very Sad Day.....

If your junk engine is a 307, swapping in a 350 sbo is a straight swap. Rebuild costs depend on what has to be done machineshop wise and what parts need to be replaced.
