The new flywheel went in with no issues. Another part that I have that might have to be ordered again. Think i got the wrong bellhousing Or I need a 1973 starter. And i'm sure olds only had one starter. It seems like a buick bellhousing.

They had a few starters. Are you using the 307 starter? Is it hitting? Go mini starter, if possible. May be a Pontiac bell housing, wasn't Buick's starter on the other side?

Ok I just checked. I got the right BOP bellhousing.

so It must be that the starter is different. :wtf: I had the transmission in place, but because i didn't know what part was wrong i took it back down.

Yeah i had the 307 starter. Cant get a mini too expensive and all the bills coming up. You know how that goes. So i have to find a 70s Olds starter. Great with my luck the parts stores will all sell me a 307 starter!!! The search begins. :lightsab:

Hey if you end up not finding a new one Message me your phone number. i have a friend that has literally piles of olds/ pontiac/ buick motors, from 307's/ 305's up to 455's and allot in between. I know there's at least two 350 rockets and if any of them have a fly wheel i'll count the teeth and pull it for you. Obviously it'll be used but it's better than nothing. I'm sure he won't want much more than 15 bucks, pitch me 10 for gas ( he lives out PAST timbuck two)and pay for shipping.

Hey thanks for the offer, but i'm passed the flywheel stage. Now i'm after a early starter or maybe just the starter housing.

Re: 307 out 350 in. What did i do wrong?

Geez, the transmission is finally in. Lessons learned that I would do different: Start with a GM V8 style transmission, the input shaft was longer on mine, and it uses the ford style bell housing mount. (which wasn't a big deal for me bc the Olds bell housing had ford top loader holes in it.) Next time I'm using a after market hydraulic throw out bearing instead of the GM part. I had to make too many custom pieces to get the lines to work and the fit is tight!
Believe it or not, the pilot bearing was a royal PITA. No one had it and the wrong one that was given to me had to be machined down to fit. (Side note, most olds blocks are drilled for the pilot bearing. The issue is no store carries the right bearing.) That little thing wound up costing me 40 bucks!! Not including the gas used running around, finding someone that could do it.
Here are some pics of it in.
