Can somebody help me identify this thing? The guy selling it has it listed as a qjet and clearly it is a carter. Wondering if it's worth messing with for $30

Looks like Carter AFB. Apparently Edelbrock carbs are based on these.

I got that much. I'm looking for more lol. Anybody have experience with these, are they modifiable, better/worse than Edelbrocks, etc???

Do you HAVE to run a straight bore 4 bbl? For nostalgic reasons or that you need a specific application? If not, I'd pass on that carb. It's not something to write home about. AFB's are fine, and Carter does ok, but for parts/tuneability, a Holley is the way to go IMO.

This one is ancient, and will need going through top to bottom. Never researched it, but not sure about parts availability.

If you're ok with a spreadbore on the street, go rochester Q-jet. Can't beat it when set up right and tons of parts still out there.

Carbs are like ice cream cones. Many different flavors can sit on top. Pick the one you like best.

Yep Mopar, Carter 700 to 800 ish. Have not seen in long time. Much Better than a Thermoquad.

Big tip.... If they don't know how to spell Quadrajet, they probably don't know what they have.

If you can get it for $30??? Get it. Rebuild it use it for something. Just remember it came off of a big block most likely manual trans. It is ported rich.

Very similar to the early Rochester 4BBL square intake mounting from corvette and Z28 302,

Q-jets didn't come on scene until late sixties.
