New project. I've been looking for quite sometime for a pickup truck, parts getter, tow vehicle.

Won the bid on a 2WD Chevy 1 Ton.

454 4L80E.

Got it for a $475.00 bid, total was $880.54 out the door. So as it gets fixed up, I'll post the pics. Right now just thinking lowered on 18s, true duals, level 5 hitch and decent paint and that will be it for a while. I'm thinking phase two to bag it. Never did bags before, so might be interesting.

It's a TBI, so if no good, then basic manifold and Carb switch. It will either work or blow up. Should be fun.

I've got a CC short bed 3/4 ton that's slightly newer ('99). it's the Vortec 350/4l80e combo. Been a good truck.

Nice and the right price. I want a 350 gas 4x4 with a 4L80E to Olds V8 again. Not having the lousy 4L60E is a bonus, no where did 3/4 go.

I absolutely love these trucks and miss mine quite a bit, they're just great aside from the cab corners and interior trim clips. I'd have to check but I may have power mirrors for this in addition to the power windows, '95+ door panels, and grille I mentioned the other day. I know I've got the rectangular headlights/ park lamps, all of which I'd been saving for a future project that'll probably never come to fruition. I may even have some stock rims. If you want any or all of it I'd be happy to see it get used.

I've got 3 of that body style truck, but they're all Vortec era. The TBI 454 was a bit of a turd for what it was, some like to overheat but that's about it. A carb won't do you any good though, better to stick with the TBI. Just drive it as it is, it'll do you fine. Maybe do a purge of that trans fluid, not just a filter change.

Bags on the rear def helps ride quality & allows for quick height adjustments when it gets loaded.

My dually has a 4-bar/link w/sleeve style bags (behind the axle) & rides pretty decent for having four load rated tires out back. My '99 still has the stock 3/4 ton leaf pack w/load rated 16's out back & it's actually not too bad. I have the parts/pieces to build a budget 2-link w/bags for it but the plan was to just do the static drop first & see how it was. How quickly I built the 2-link was to be based on that.

Both trucks have Bilsteins front & rear.

I hoping TBI is good and don't plan to change unless I have to. Not in the mood to modify the engine, got too much of that already. So fingers crossed.

I'll pull the pan on trans and diff, inspect
and make sure it has all good fresh fluid. I have a 4L80 that can go in, but for now, no interest in flat backing it and doing the swap. Too many other things going on.

Gen 5 BBC kinda suck, head flow, cam spec and 8:1 CR are biggest hurdles.
towards the engine model split some gen5 had OEM HR cams in 95/96 years.

If you can score a set of gen 6 BBC heads 96-01 (casting # 10141279) they flow better and also bump compression from ~8:1 to 9:1. I've had good results putting Manley proflow valves and springs that can handle .600 lift. Heads will support ~425-450hp and around 500-550tq with proflow valves after that you're porting and ROI gets small fast.
The heads choke out around 4500-5000rpm

If you like to swap it to HR cam the GM #24502611 211/230° at .050 510/540" cam works very well at towing and DDing.
Staying flat tappet
Summit 1300 is a 208/218° at .050 470/500 lift
Summit 1301 is a 218/228° at .050 501/502 lift

some headers and 3" exhaust.
just put a magnaflow 12594 muffler on my 01 2500 suburban dual 3" single 4" used 4" tail pipe kit for 01-10 GM diesel pickups
