Carrier Question

I was just thinking (which is dangerous), if the carrier is an Auburn posi side gears were never available since the Auburn was not rebuildable

That's plenty IMO. Head to the boneyard and look for a 4 cyl S10 - the gears will look like new due to the lack of power/torque as long as it's never been run out of oil. The bearings will match.
Hmmm, I think that's exactly what I'm getting. Did 4 bangers get 4.11s? I might just leave them.

One of the standards did, but it was the newer S10 that would have 28 splines.

I think some of the 4cyl S-10 got 3.73 gears as well. Most of the Astro Van's are the 3.23 gears you seek, my local wrecker had to look at quite a few to find the 3.42 gears I wanted when my spider gears exploded and took out the pinion gear. The normal spider gears can be used IF there is no signs of wear or excessive play. Not sure how much rubber the 3800 will lay, that is what kills them, shock load.

When I purchased my still-un-used 3.73 gears from Summit they were listed as being for a 2 series carrier.
*cough* I'm selling them if anyone's interested. *cough*
