Carrier Question

I'm going to lose my 2.41s in favor of 3.23s- are the 7.5s like the 8.2/8.5 where you need a different carrier once you go over a certain gear ratio? I vaguely recall 3.08 being a break point....

Yep. 3.08 and numerically lower are series 2. 3.23 on up are series 3. They do make series 3 numbered gears that fit in the 7.5 housing with a series 2 carrier. I think its the ring gears that are thicker on series 3... maybe other differences.

You'll need a 3-series. Up to and including 3.08 is 2-series. 3.23 and up is 3-series.

Well, crap. What should I look in for a 26 spline/ 3 series carrier, S-10, or are they 28 spline?

You can use the 2 series carrier for the 3.23 gears by adding a spacer..

Ahhhhh, thanks for that! My buddy says I can have an extra posi 26 he has. We shall see how it shakes out.

I got a 2-series from a 87(?) Camaro with 26 splines and used a spacer for 3.42s. Worked okay.

So, if I do in fact get a 3 series carrier, it seems that the only spider gear kit in 26 spline I can find is made by SVL. The product description says they're backed by Dana. Never heard of them..... Yukon only makes them for 28 spline, according to their website.

SVL are gears made in India and use the Dana name to make people think they are quality gears.
