Did some reading on the R1234yf and any cars manufactured in Europe starting in 2012 would have R1234yf. Starting in 2017-2018 in the states certain cars and trucks would have the new freon but not all. by 2020-2021 all cars would have the new R1234yf.
Very expensive, 30lbs almost $700 in the states

My 2010 Charger had R1234 when I bought it used in 2014.
Chargers where made in Canada so wondering if Canada was part of the European Union for your car to have R1234yf very possible but not sure.
I just checked my daughter's 2017 subaru it uses R134A, my wifes 2019 Ford uses R123yf. It is interesting

At least R290 (propane) is still cheap, and will work better than R134a in an R12 system.

R290/R600a blends are a little harder to get but work even better.

When I had my shop and saw how the R12 was going I bought $15k of 30lb containers from Sams. I called my supplier every Monday and adjusted my price accordingly. Best deal I ever made and wayyyyy beat the stock market

Different oems started switching refrigerants at different times. Some waited a long time and hoped someone would come up with a better replacement seeing as 1234 is expensive and flammable, others switched earlier. For example FIAT based Chrysler’s (Cherokee renegade Pacifica 200 dart etc) went to 1234 as early as the 2015 model year, but they left RAMs with 134 until the 2019 redesign. I seen to recall charger challenger 300 not getting 1234 until 2015 or maybe later but I could be mistaken. It’s not as bad now but in the beginning it was horrible, we’re one of the only shops in the area with the right equipment so we did a lot of body shop ac charges, these shops would quite evac/recharge as if it were 134, then lose their butt when they got the bill. It’s also a painstakingly long and annoying process to charge with 1234, a lot of hoops to jump through including doing your regular vacuum and leak test, then to charge it does another 5 minutes vacuum, 5 minutes leak test, partial charge, prompts you to check for leaks with a sniffer, recovers the partial charge and weighs to verify no leak, another vacuum, then it will do a charge, not nearly as quick and simple as a 134 charge

$1200 for 20lb bottle in ma.can't buy it unless you have the state mandated license either.another $25 to the commonwealth.insurance company's only reimburse here if you have the printed slip from the machine stating what you actually did.Mccormack's rite, the machine promps you on every turn, gotta type in vin# etc etc 👎 more work than the 134 that's for sure.

Good Info, is the recovery machine different from a R134a?
